"COOK WAREHOUSE" Detailed History:
In the history of the discovery of oil in Van, Texas by the Pure oil company on October 14, 1929 under the Jarman lease and three more development wells being drilled and completed by December 14,1929, it became evident that it was necessary to construct a camp to house the 118 office and field employees. a surface lease was taken from Horace Cook for some $3,500.00 on a number of acres some two miles west of Van. the lease contained a stipulation that at such time as pure ceased using the land for a camp, the property would revert back to Horace Cook or his heirs. construction began shortly thereafter of' the Cook camp" with Albert Staton as construction superintendent.
