Van Area Oil and Historical Museum - Continued
The 87 Lee C. Moore derrick located in the front of the Museum is not original to the Van oilfield. All of the derricks in the Van ailfield had been torn down some years ago so in order to retain some of the past history of the oilfield the Directors of the Museum obtained the donation of a 87 Lee C. Moore derrick from Walker Well Service of Gladewater, Texas. The derrick was located in Gregg County, Texas and had to be dismantled, moved and reassembled on the yard of the Museum in 1991.
The Museum houses displays such as an old workable corn sheller, sewing machine, postal equipment, surveying equipment, a small working replica of a oilfield pumping unit, various types of farm equipment, an old fire truck, all types of oilfield tools from wrenches to wooden sucker rods, various household items such as World War II rations books and numerous other items of interest are on display far the viewing pleasure of the public.
